2019 MTV EMAs Deliver Next Level Ratings

Ratings for this year's event rose while its social footprint reached new highs.

The MTV Europe Music Awards aired last Sunday from Seville, Spain for the second year in a row. The 26th annual event reached new heights for the awards franchise.

Internationally, ratings increased 49 percent in MTV's core demo (ages 15 to 34) and 34 percent for all viewers on MTV branded channels. In Germany, audiences more than doubled, with a 107 percent increase year-over-year. It was also the highest-rated EMA performance ever in Spain—up 16 percent from last year. Viewership climbed 23 percent in the U.K.

MTV also touted the event's social footprint, as social video views are up 96 percent year-over-year. It was the most social program in the U.S. on broadcast and cable, reaching a new peak for stateside social video views with an increase of nearly 300 percent.

"MTV is truly the only brand that can pull off a global music celebration of this magnitude," says Bruce Gillmer, Viacom's global head of music and music talent. "We're all proud to see how this amazing team comes together each year to shatter expectations."

The event, hosted by Becky G, featured performances from Green Day, Halsey, and Rosalia. See more highlights in the photos below.
