John Bagwell is Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel at Paramount. He has primary responsibility for, and serves as the lead attorney to, CBS Affiliate Distribution. In this role, he plays a key role in strategy development and oversees legal and contractual issues regarding the non-owned CBS Television Network affiliates across 195 U.S. television markets.
Bagwell also has primary responsibility for Federal Communications Commission and other broadcast regulatory matters impacting Paramount’s broadcast and cable networks and owned television station portfolio. In this capacity, Bagwell works closely with other senior Paramount executives in the development and implementation of policies and provides legal counsel to minimize legal risk while maximizing operations and revenue.
Prior to joining Paramount, Bagwell was a Member of Lerman Senter PLLC in Washington, DC where he provided legal counsel and strategic advice to a variety of commercial and noncommercial broadcast clients regarding regulatory, operational, and transaction related matters. Bagwell is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Virginia State Bar, and the Federal Communications Bar Association.
Prior to his legal career, Bagwell worked in the public relations and marketing field in Washington, DC.
Bagwell earned his J.D. from the College of William and Mary and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign.
