Windows:

Right-click the icon, then select Save picture as.... Save the icon to your computer, paying attention to the name of the file and the directory where you are saving the file. You’ll need to navigate to that file when you add it to your instant messaging application.

Mac:

Drag the icon to your desktop. Select this icon from within your instant messaging application.
