Don Harris

President of Domestic Distribution,
Motion Picture Group, Paramount Pictures

As President of Domestic Distribution, Motion Picture Group, Donald Patrick Harris is responsible for overseeing the distribution of Paramount Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Insurge Pictures, MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies.  His oversight includes theatrical sales, in-theatre marketing, non-theatrical sales (worldwide airlines, cruise ships, colleges, military and repertory library), and operations that support the functions in each of these areas (worldwide systems, A/R, anti piracy, print and digital control, feature distribution and all feature screenings programs). 

 Most recently, Harris spearheaded the successful releases of “WORLD WAR Z,” starring Brad Pitt; J.J. Abrams’ “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS;” Michael Bay’s “PAIN & GAIN;” “G.I. JOE: RETALIATION;” Robert Zemeckis’ “FLIGHT,” starring Denzel Washington; and “JACK REACHER,” starring Tom Cruise. 

Other recent successes include Steven Spielberg’s “THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN;” Martin Scorsese’s “HUGO,” which was nominated for 11 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won five; the third and fourth “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY” films; “MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL;” and the re-releases of James Cameron’s epic adventure “TITANIC” and “TOP GUN” in IMAX®3D.

Harris also oversaw the sales distribution of such wide-ranging successes as the “TRANSFORMERS,” “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY,” “SHREK,” “KUNG FU PANDA” and “MADAGASCAR” franchises; “IRON MAN” and “IRON MAN 2;” “THOR;” “CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER;” Martin Scorsese’s highest grossing film, “SHUTTER ISLAND;” the critically acclaimed Academy Award® nominated films “UP IN THE AIR,” “THE FIGHTER” and “TRUE GRIT;” the 2012 Academy-Award® winner for Best Animated Picture, “RANGO;” and Academy Award® winners “GLADIATOR,” “AMERICAN BEAUTY” and Steven Spielberg’s World War II drama, “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.”

Harris is currently working on a number of highly anticipated Paramount Pictures releases, including Academy Award® winner Martin Scorsese’s “THE WOLF OF WALL STREET,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio; Academy Award® winner Alexander Payne’s “NEBRASKA;” Academy Award® winner Jason Reitman’s “LABOR DAY,” starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin; the next installment of “PARANORMAL ACTIVITY;” the eagerly awaited “ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES;” and the action adventure “JACK RYAN,” starring Chris Pine and Keira Knightley.  

Prior to joining Paramount, Don served as Head of Theatrical Distribution Sales for DreamWorks SKG in the U.S. and Canada for more than a decade.  Before joining the distribution community, Harris had a distinguished career with nearly 25 years in exhibition, having served as President of Film Marketing at AMC Theatres since the mid 1980s, where he oversaw the film buying and film marketing groups for the nation’s largest circuit in the domestic market.  

In 1995, DreamWorks SKG tapped Harris to head up its distribution sales for the U.S. and Canada.  On June 25, 2006, in concert with the sale of DreamWorks Pictures to Viacom, he moved to the Paramount lot to oversee the domestic sales division for the studio’s Motion Picture Group.

Harris holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles and also attended Santa Clara University of Law.
